JDS Camp 2014 Highlights

21 Jan 2014 by Little Athletics Victoria

JDS Camp Day 2014 kicked off at Lakeside Stadium on Sunday 19 January with 117 kids ready and raring to go. What followed over the next four days has to be one of our best years yet.

Day 1, 2 and 3 saw our athletes go through various training sessions and strength and conditioning programs with our fantastic JDS coaches. Thankfully the conditions were a lot cooler than the previous week’s four-day 40 degrees-plus streak! These sessions were a great opportunity for athletes to gain new skills and improve technical competencies. They were also a chance for them to develop new friendships.

There was plenty of fun and games and activities along the way to break up the more intensive training. Some of this year’s highlights included watching Gravity in 3D, swimming at MSAC and a popular favourite – a disco dance-off with music spun by decathlon athlete and DJ Steve Cain! We’re not sure who was more tired at the end of each day, our athletes or our coaches! Luckily, everyone had the awesome setting of Ormond College to relax and recharge their batteries every night.

Day 4 was team competition day where athletes were able to participate in their favourite events. It was great to watch everyone put their three days of training into competitive action. Even though there were definitely a lot of tired bodies on the final day, the effort and enthusiasm shown by all of the JDS athletes on Day 4 and throughout the Camp was outstanding.

A huge thank you to all the coaches and athletes involved. And a special hats off to Shane Bertrand, our Education and Development Manager, for organising yet another fantastic JDS Camp.
